The opioid epidemic
This is one of my stories that looks at how the opioid epidemic is affecting First Nations. The scale of the problem is enormous, but sometimes relegated to statistics. I was moved to write this story when I read a submission that Chief Fox from Kainai had made to the federal government saying his Elders in the community needed help because they were left to raise their grandchildren after the parents had died. I also found some hope in the form of strong First Nations women and men working to improve the lives of others in their community.
